Charlotte Pass Snow Resort advises that the highly anticipated new Guthries Double Chair will not open for the Winter 2025 season, with its debut now scheduled for Winter 2026.
While significant progress has been made on-site and work by Doppelmayr continues at great pace, the resort’s original timeline was, and continues to be, heavily impacted by delays caused by the region’s regulatory authorities. Late-stage requests for additional information and documentation—exceeding what would typically be expected and unrelated to the physical construction of the chairlift—have created a knock-on effect, ultimately delaying the project’s completion until next year.
“We have done everything in our power to get Guthries open for Winter 2025,” said Lucy Blyton-Gray, General Manager of Charlotte Pass Snow Resort. “Our team worked tirelessly alongside Doppelmayr to stay on track, but unfortunately, the extended approvals process—beyond our control—created unavoidable delays.”
The NSW Department of Planning have imposed a DA condition that all work on the project must cease on the 30th April 2025 until October 2025, which is one month earlier than comparable restrictions applied to other chairlift projects in the Snowy Mountains. As a result, construction is now being finalised for this summer and environmental rehabilitation works completed at the bottom station as well as towers 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Charlotte Pass remains committed to delivering the new lift to the highest standards, both in terms of environmental responsibility and guest experience. The Guthries Double Chair will significantly enhance access to advanced terrain and improve the overall efficiency of lift operations on the mountain.
“We know how excited our guests and community are about this 3-million-dollar upgrade, and we share that excitement,” Blyton-Gray added. “We thank everyone for their patience and support as we work through the final stages and look forward to unveiling the new chair for Winter 2026.
