General Resort Information

History

The Chalet has played an important role on the development of skiing in Australia, with the Kosciuszko Chalet Hotel the birthplace of modern skiing in Australia. Charlotte Pass is the highest snow resort in Australia, at 1,765 metres. We hold the record for the coldest temperature ever recorded in Australia – minus 23 degrees Celcius.

The original Chalet was built in 1930. In the Winter of 1938, the building burnt to the ground. The following Summer, the present building was constructed and opened for the 1939 Winter.

The pass and village are named after Charlotte Adams who, in 1881, was the first European woman to climb Mount Kosciuszko.

Internet

Free WiFi is available for surfing the web, checking emails, and posting on social media. Just connect to “Charlotte Pass WiFi” and enter your email address.

Fire Safety

The Chalet is equippred with a fire safety system, which includes an audio alarm and a sprinkler system. Fire extinguishers are located around the building for localised fires amd exits are identified with signage.

If the alarm sounds, do not panic. Stay where you are. The fire warden will check the fire control board to locate the source of the alarm. Should you need to vacate the building, the Fire Safety Team will advise you of the closest exit. On vacating the building, all guests should assemble in front of the building opposite the Chalet. A fire escape plan is on the back of your bedroom door.
